2016 started off sadly for music lovers around the world.
First we lost David Bowie, a British Music Icon, who died January 10th at the age of 69 after an 18 month battle with cancer. And only 8 days later, Glenn Frey, rock Legend from the Eagles, died at age 67.
While people will grieve the loss of such great musicians; many charities will miss their generous support and the awareness they generated. While living, these men made a huge impact on the lives of others. An impact that will last significantly past the date on their tombstones.
Both Bowie and Frey supported a multitude of charities during their lives, but helping the world's children topped each of their lists.
David Bowie supportedEvery Mother Counts, Save the Children, The Lunchbox Fund, and War Child. He also supported 21st Century Leaders, which inspires high school students to take on leadership positions and give back to their communities. (Attend the upcoming Georgia Youth Leadership Awards, GYLA, at the College Football Hall of Fame in downtown Atlanta on March 5th where you can meet the top 20 outstanding youth leaders from across the state.)
Glenn Frey also invested in tomorrow's future by supporting the children of today.
Glenn Frey told the Desert Sun in 2012- "I've been helping kids-at-risk kids- for a long time, thirty years. It seems like now times are even more troubled for young people." Frey stated he wanted to make the world a better place and one way he did that was by supporting a dozen kids through ChildFund International (formerly the Children's Christian Fund). "I give money to an organization that aids in the adoption of kids who are handicapped."
Though Glenn liked to give, he was humble. "I don't like to publicize a lot of what I might be doing, but I try to do my part, and I just wish that everybody would. You don't have to be a successful rock star in order to help people."

It doesn't cost a thing, yet anyone can do it.
And as Glenn said, you don't have to be a rock star to help.
